WORK AS AN AGRICULTURAL WORKER IN FRANCE

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

Agricultural Workers support the everyday operation of farms and agricultural businesses.

The exact duties will depend on the employer and type of farm. Some workers may spend most of their time working with crops in fields, while others may work in greenhouses, vineyards, agricultural warehouses or produce-packing facilities.

Typical duties include planting, maintaining crops, harvesting, sorting, packing, preparing produce for transportation and general farm maintenance.

Planting & Crop Preparation

Workers may help prepare fields and growing areas for new crops.

Daily duties can include preparing planting areas, placing seeds or young plants, arranging planting rows, moving trays, preparing soil and assisting experienced farm workers with general crop preparation.

Employees may also help move agricultural materials, tools, containers and other equipment around the farm.

Crop Maintenance

Once crops have been planted, workers help maintain them throughout the growing process.

This can include:

  • Watering crops
  • Removing weeds

Outdoor employees should be prepared to work in different weather conditions.

  • Walking around fields or farms

WORKING HOURS

The standard working schedule will generally be based around:

Approximately 7 hours per day
5 days per week

Some agricultural workplaces begin early in the morning.

Additional working hours may occasionally be available when workloads increase. All working schedules, rest periods and overtime arrangements will be subject to the employment contract and applicable French employment regulations.

SALARY

Approximately €1,450–€1,500 Net Per Month

This represents an estimated take-home salary. The final employment contract will state the employee’s official gross salary in euros.

All employment offers must comply with the applicable French minimum wage and employment regulations.

Actual take-home pay can vary depending on statutory deductions and individual circumstances.

Additional earnings may be possible when approved overtime or additional hours are available.

ACCOMMODATION PROVIDED

Employees may share common facilities with other workers.
